Aerial yoga to have fun!
If you’re sick of the mat, how about a walk in the air? Aerial yoga allows you to defy gravity, release the weight of your body and take flight. It is a form of yoga that is inspired by classic postures or asanas, but also in different activities such as dance or the trapeze of the circus.
It is a very fun practice that can be adapted to all levels. All you need is the desire to fly and feel free. Even if you don’t have any experience you can practice aerial yoga. Little by little you will feel more secure until you reach the point where you can make asanas that were not even imaginable before.
What is an aerial yoga class like?
Unlike a normal yoga class, instead of performing the sequences on the floor, a swing is used. This hangs from the ceiling with thick ropes that are capable of supporting any weight. Likewise, a harness is used to support the body.
At the beginning of the class the mat is used to warm the body and as the sequences go on, the student combines his practice with the swing. In aerial yoga there is no pressure or the possibility of impacting the floor. For this reason there are practically no limitations and the risk of an injury is reduced. As in any other yoga class, the complexity of the asanas increases according to the rhythm of the students.
What are the benefits of practicing aerial yoga?
There are many, but perhaps the most interesting is that you gain self-confidence. The postures that previously seemed impossible, suddenly are easier to execute. The swing acts as a net, since by preventing a fall students feel more secure.
The advantages are enormous. For example, the spine is decompressed, joint pressure is released and blood pressure is regulated. On an emotional level, the person can gain self-esteem, because when they “take flight” they release fears and insecurities.
