5 habits to gain self-confidence
Self-confidence can be learned. It is an art that can be practiced until it becomes natural. Some people handle themselves with more confidence in the world than others. This is due to a range of factors such as parenting, personality or their value system. However, if you do not feel comfortable in your own skin, you can take action. It’s a matter of habits!
Some experts like Deepak Chopra, the well-known specialist in wellbeing and all its possibilities, say that 21 days are enough. We will not tell you exactly which way to go, each human being is a universe with its own qualities and flaws. What we do want to share with you, are five habits so that you can enjoy more of yourself.
Self-confidence: 5 habits that will change your life
Self-love. Perhaps the most powerful ingredient in a recipe for feeling more self-confidence is love. We must confuse it with selfishness or narcissism, that’s another story. The important thing is to learn to love oneself before others or external circumstances. It is impossible to receive affection, praise, empowerment or any positive attribute if you do not give it to yourself first. Develop the habit of self-love. You can start with something as simple as taking care of your health and appearance, or with something as profound as separating yourself from people or situations that only harm you.
Acceptance. Comparing yourself with others is useless. Each person is unique and lives circumstances that can only be understood from an individual perspective. If you judge yourself for who you are and who you are not in contrast to others, surely your self-confidence will fall apart. What if you start accepting yourself as you are? With your flaws and virtues. Cultivate the habit of accepting what life gave you, from the color of your hair and your height, to your family circumstances and your history.
Empowerment. Perhaps you have become accustomed to accepting the opinions of others, to receiving orders or instructions. Perhaps, for work or personal reasons, you have adopted the role of the victim. It is true that life can take unpleasant turns. Sometimes we have to face situations that make us feel bad, however, it is possible to deal with things more positively. At least once a day, make a conscious decision. It can be something small like saying no to an invitation or choosing to eat healthy foods over the usual sugars. Little by little you will gain more confidence in yourself. Remember that each action corresponds to a reaction, you have the power!
And perhaps the most important things…
Be yourself. It is normal that the judgments of others affect us, we are human beings! People close to us or even our partners can have some power over how we behave in life. For example, maybe when you were a teenager you suffered when others they made fun at you, or even in childhood. This can create a scar and diminish self-confidence. On the other hand, if you develop the habit of freeing yourself from criticism, you will be happier and live more freely. Why does it matter what others think about you? If you do not hurt anyone, live with your truth! Teach the world the best of you, what makes you different from the rest!
Recognize your talents. Perhaps you are good at writing, sports, ease of speech, listening, punctuality, efficiency … the list can be short or endless! If you think about it you will surely find something. Use your talent as a tool to approach the world. It doesn’t matter if your are not a professional athlete or a famous artist. Most of all, the goal is to find what flows naturally from you and once you recognize it, own it! One question you can ask yourself to find your talent is, what do you enjoy doing even without being paid?
